Mi Vida Mine Tour and Dinner at Sunset Grill

Join the Moab Museum for a rare, behind-the-scenes journey into the legendary Mi Vida Mine, the strike that transformed Moab into the “Uranium Capital of the World.” Led by Mark Steen, son of famed prospector Charlie Steen, this immersive experience offers unparalleled insight into the boomtown days that reshaped the region.

Your day begins with a guided caravan from the Moab Museum into Lisbon Valley, where Mark will share stories, photographs, and first-hand history at the Mi Vida site itself. Enjoy lunch on-site (BYO), then return to Moab for a private tour of the Museum’s “U92: Moab’s Uranium Legacy” exhibition—connecting the mine’s legacy to artifacts, images, and personal stories.

The experience concludes in true Moab style: dinner at the Sunset Grill, perched above town in Charlie Steen’s former mansion, with sweeping red rock views as the sun sets.

What’s included:

• Driving/hiking tour of the legendary Mi Vida Mine, led by Mark Steen, son of famous prospector Charlie Steen
• All inclusive dinner at the Sunset Grill, family home of the Steens and now a fine dining experience. Accompanied by Mark Steen for a personal tour and intimate dinner.
  • Optional: Shuttle to/from the Sunset Grill from the Moab Museum. Participants may also opt to take their personal vehicles. 
  • Dinner includes appetizers, salad, bread, entrees, dessert, non-alcoholic beverages, and automatic 20% gratuity. Participants may elect to enjoy alcoholic beverages at their own cost. 
• Admission to the Moab Museum, featuring the U92: Moab’s Uranium Legacy exhibition

What’s not included:

• Tour transportation. Participants will carpool/caravan in the comfort of their own vehicles, or find a friend on the tour! 4WD/AWD not necessary, though high clearance and a sense of adventure are encouraged. Questions may be directed to megan@moabmuseum.org.
  • Participants carpooling may leave extra vehicles parked outside the Moab Museum on free Center St. parking. 
• Bring your own packed lunch! Moab Museum will provide small refreshments and snacks, but participants should bring their own lunch to enjoy along the tour.
